Personal Background – Belinda Davies

Belinda Davies

Belinda was born and educated in Durban. She obtained a BA (English and Psychology) from the University of Natal, Durban and a BA(Hons) Psych from UNISA.

In 1986 she joined the Hotel and Catering Industry Training Council (now the Tourism and Hospitality SETA) in 1986 and was part of the process of privatising the training activities of the South African Tourism Board.

In 1989 she joined the Training Department of the Southern Sun Group, and was appointed Training Manager Holiday Inn in 1990 with training responsibilities for 23 hotels countrywide. She was appointed Group Training Manager in 1991, and her responsibilities were expanded to include the Southern Sun Hotels. Her specialities included management and leadership development, as well as organisational development. She was involved in the rebranding of 13 Southern Sun and Holiday Inn hotels as Holiday Inn Garden Courts up until 1992.

In 1992, Belinda left Southern Sun to start her own training consultancy and specialised in the provision of the pre-opening training for new hotels. This involved management and skills training, as well as strategic planning on many of these projects. She has been involved in the opening of more than 30 hotels in Southern Africa. She then became increasingly involved in materials development as the hospitality industry geared itself up in terms of the National Qualifications framework.

In 2001, Belinda’s work began to broaden to include coaching. She formed C‑Business Coaching Solutions with a colleague in January 2002 and continued this work until June 2008.

In June 2008, Belinda formed Leadership Solutions.

Belinda’s interests include strategic leadership, organisational and individual performance and the development of leadership. Her passion is enabling people to achieve what they had previously believed was impossible.

Belinda has recorded more than 3500 hours of coaching with executives and senior managers and teams. She has a sound understanding of business and strategy across a broad range of industries including banking, manufacturing, advertising, engineering and hospitality.

She has also taken more than 100 new managers through an exciting accelerated development programme that builds knowledge, skill and impact through a combination of group action learning and coaching.

She is currently National President of COMENSA (Coaches and Mentors of South Africa).

Her qualifications and licenses include a Diploma in Practitioner Coaching; the Enneagram Personality Assessment, and the Emotional and Social Intelligence Inventory.
