Facilitating Difficult Team Conversations
Dōjō – a place for training
Any group or organization will have, at some time, to have the “hard conversations”. These are conversations which are about the elephant in the room, the issues which are influencing the effectiveness and wellbeing of the group but which team members prefer to ignore.
Hard conversations might be around reasons for low productivity and missed targets. They might be around an individual’s performance or influence on the team. They might be about the values of a team and where the values are being compromised.
If you are in a team or have led a team, you will know about the need for the hard conversations.
Leadership Solutions has developed a group-coaching-based process which will facilitate teams having those conversations. A space is created with strictly enforced rules to ensure that frank, honest and constructive conversation takes place with a definite result and clearly defined way forward.
We call this process, and the place created for it to happen, the dōjō. Traditionally a hall used for training martial arts, the Leadership Solutions dōjō is a place for team development and robust learning where the hard questions are not avoided and the necessary conversations take place. The process is facilitated by a trained and experienced coach.
The outcome of the dōjō experience is a team which has grappled with and understands the issues, has developed strong relationships forged in the crucible of reality, and which is committed to a constructive way forward.
